Питание и поведение по сезонам
Питание осенью (Англ.яз.)
Nutrition and disease syndromes in the autumn season. What does traditional Tibetan medicine tell us about this. This time I decided to act outside the box. Consider first the nutrition in the season from the point of view of various syndromes that can manifest themselves as independent diseases or as mild ailments after the summer Heat. And below we will talk about what is useful to eat for those who feel healthy and do not need treatment.
Since autumn is primarily associated with the meridian and the organ of the Lungs and the Large intestine, then speaking of the autumn season, we will primarily talk about lung damage in one form or another. They can be observed in each of us in a wide variety of ways. Some of the syndromes we would never even call a disease, but they can point us to what each of us is more or less useful to eat in this season from the point of view of the ancient Tibetan tradition.
So, lets consider the main damaging factors and syndromes that most often manifest themselves in the autumn period:
Hot Dryness or damage by dry heat. It manifests itself mainly in August and September.
Symptoms:
Dry mouth, dry skin, sore throat, sore throat, dry cough, insomnia, fever, sweating, tongue is most often dry red and there may be a yellow plaque on it, eyes are red, there is little urine and it is concentrated.
Action: remove dryness and heat.
Treatment:
- Drink a lot of warm, not hot water with honey or molasses. One teaspoon per glass of water. Drink a sip every five minutes.
- All food should be moisturizing and cooling, for example, vegetable and chicken soups, boiled rice.
- It is good to drink a decoction of elecampane with licorice. Elecampane will eliminate heat from the Lungs, and licorice will moisturize the Lungs. A teaspoon of both herbs for 300-400 ml of water, cook for 15-20 minutes and drink half a glass or a glass of broth three times a day.
- You can also use 5-6 kernels of bitter almonds (apricots) per day for the treatment or prevention of this syndrome.
- It is useful to drink an infusion of lemon peels. It is best to insist on warm water if the crusts are fresh, hot water if dry. Insist for 30 minutes. It is also useful to eat lemon candied fruits.
- With these symptoms, such familiar remedies as hot milk with honey, steam inhalations, mustard plasters and warming up, drinks and food of a warming type are not used, because there is already too much Heat in the body with such symptoms, and all of the above means will only add it.
Cold Dryness or Dryness and Cold in the Lungs. It manifests itself mainly in October and November.
Symptoms: Autumn develops further, it gets cold and, as a result, with weak immunity, Dryness and Cold in the Lungs can develop. The symptoms are similar to the previous paragraph, only with the difference that a person is afraid of cold and wind, there is no sweating, he is dry, the temperature is not very high (37 with a little), dry nose and throat, headache, severe pallor of the skin.
Action: remove dryness and cold.
Treatment:
a) Ginger tea **. The recipe is for those who are healthy, but suddenly froze and there was such a syndrome. It is more useful to use such tea by adding licorice.
b) Hot water with honey.
c) Mulled wine.
d) Warm, moisturizing food with spicy and spicy spices.
e) A decoction of elecampane is also good to drink when cold - dry, because elecampane is a unique herb that removes both Cold and Heat from the lungs. Therefore, it can be drunk both if overheated and if frozen. Manu will bring out both. ================================================================
All the above recipes are given exclusively for healthy people, without chronic diseases!
** It is important to warn that if such symptoms develop in a person with chronic lung disease and other heat syndromes, then it is absolutely impossible to drink ginger tea and the above folk remedies. After all, with chronic lung disease, there is always a Fever in them. And if a person with a chronic lung disease has cooled down, a Cold has entered him, he still needs to be treated with drugs for Fever. Otherwise, warm and hot medicines will add even more Heat, aggravating the chronic state of the disease. For 10-15 minutes they will expel the Cold, while creating a big, big Heat from the old process in the lungs. So the craze for ginger tea is not as harmless as it may seem. Everything should be done wisely, and not obeying the momentary trends of fashion.
The symptoms of wet Heat and wet Cold are not characteristic of autumn, so I will not consider them here.
The only thing I will analyze the situation in which cases a cold of a non-dry type is clearly manifested in an unusual autumn season. Where does the seemingly large excess of humidity come from in autumn? And heres the thing.
As we said, the main property of the primary element Metal is Dryness. In order to fight Dryness in the autumn season, it must be overcome in every possible way, because Dryness is a very strong damaging factor. Developed Dryness, as a rule, leads to serious diseases and if it develops in the lungs, it leads to damage to the qi of the lungs. If a lot of Dryness accumulates in the body, then the energy of the primary element of Water (kidney energy) begins to neutralize this Dryness in every possible way and moisturize the body. That is why watery, light discharge from the nose occurs, as a protective reaction of the body to reduce Dryness in it and in the lungs. Therefore, a runny nose with transparent discharge may be in the fall, although this symptom was not added by me to the two main ones: dryness-heat and dryness-cold. If such a swelling occurred in the nose, it means that the same swelling developed in the lungs, and this happened in order to reduce Dryness - a protective reaction of the body.
Why is the body so protected? We have two ways to replenish qi: through the qi of the Spleen and the qi of the Lungs. If the qi of the meridian of the Lungs is damaged by Dryness, then there will be no "half" of qi. There will be shortness of breath, weakness, pallor, fainting. Therefore, it is necessary to drink milk, eat pumpkin and moisten the rooms (with a humidifier, a basin of water or a fountain).
That is, in autumn it is necessary to moisturize the body as much as possible in order not to produce the formation of Dryness energy inside the body and prevent its penetration into the Lungs and Large intestine. Otherwise, Dryness of the Lungs will lead to at least a cough. Therefore, during this period, if there are no special situations, it is most favorable to use everything that moisturizes the Lungs: cereals - rice and wheat, melons - pumpkins, zucchini, watermelons, melons and dairy products.
Autumn: nutrition from the point of view of TM in general
The taste of the season and the primary element of Metal is sharp. This means that there is already a lot of sharpness in the Metal element, because sharp is its main taste. Therefore, in the fall, in no case can you eat spicy spices and foods - the lungs will be damaged: fever in the lungs, cough, purulent sputum.
Moreover, in the autumn season, the Liver is in short supply. If there is a sharp taste in the food, then we will not only create Heat in the Lungs, but also suppress liver function even more according to the law of Wu-Sin "grandfather - grandson". And in order to replenish the energy of the Liver and suppress the excess energy of the Lungs, it is useful to eat sour. For example, sour apples, cranberries, lemons, feijoa, plums, sauerkraut are traditional products of the autumn season.
Grain of autumn - rice. The taste of rice is sweet - the opposite of spicy. The question is often asked: "Why is rice advised to eat when Dry, because rice is very dry and often leads to constipation?"
Firstly, when making such a statement, people most often mean long-grain rice, cooked "grain to grain". While rice for medicinal and seasonal, autumn nutrition is used round-grain, white and cooked to such an extent that it is sticky. The usual Kuban round-grain rice is ideal for this.
Secondly, the energy of rice is Dryness, but its Dryness is so great that during cooking it gives rise to Humidity (according to the law of transformation of Yang into Yin, when Yin is born in a strong Yang) inside the body and, in particular, in the Lungs. Thus, it moisturizes the whole body.
In addition, the color of the Lungs (the primary element Metal) is white, and rice is also white. Therefore, from the point of view of lung nutrition, it is necessary to eat white rice. Those of you who have been to Southeast Asia and have seen what kind of rice the locals eat, remember that it is only white. And there is a special wisdom of the ages in this.
In addition to rice, millet (millet) is favorable for Lungs in autumn. Especially millet porridge with pumpkin. Millet is also very dry (according to the law of transformation of Yang into Yin, Moisture is born in it from Dryness). It strongly strengthens the Spleen and helps to moisturize the Lungs.
Meat of autumn - horse meat and venison. Well nourishing the yin of the lungs - horse meat is warm, and gives birth to Humidity. Therefore, in the ancient tradition, all lung diseases were treated with drinks such as koumiss and camel milk.
The fruit of the season and the lungs is a peach. Nectarine can also be attributed to it.
The vegetable of the season is tubular green onions. This vegetable has a strong effect on the Lungs. You cant eat it in the fall. And in the spring it is very good. It strongly gives birth to Lung qi. It can be eaten in autumn only in cooked form, because after heat treatment it changes its properties, becomes sweet and gives rise to humidity.
What is useful and what is not useful from food and drinks in the autumn period
Not useful:
1. Salty taste is not favorable for autumn, and acute is contraindicated.
2. In the fall, you can not overeat - this will disrupt the movement of qi through the channels.
3. You can not eat ginger and raw garlic.
4. It is not useful to eat the liver of animals, because this can lead to damage to the Lungs by fever and will give rise to a prolonged cough.
Useful:
1. If Dryness prevails in the Lungs (we look at the syndromes at the beginning of the article), then rice, cooked white radish (daikon), kohlrabi, watercress, add butter or ghee, cottage cheese to food should be used more.
